Stuck In A/C Shaft, Hidden Cell Phone and Fake ID Fail. It’s Stupid Criminals!

Richard Anthony Smith

Thief Gets Stuck in Air Conditioning Shaft, Then Calls 911

Knoxville Tennessee – This is Richard Anthony Smith, 25, who called Knoxville cops to report a man who got trapped in an air conditioning shaft of a local museum. The man trapped in the A/C shaft? Himself!

Yep, Einstein got stuck while breaking and entering and called cops for help while concocting a lame story to justify why he was there.

From the roof, cops and firefighters found him stuck 50 feet down, in the ducts of the building’s ventilation system. He told police he was there to “defuse and confiscate” a Soviet-made nuclear warhead. Must have been part of some super secret government covert operation.

When he was arrested on charges of robbery he was overheard by cops saying, “”Mission failed.” You can’t make this stuff up!

Cell Phone Up the Rectum

Anyone see my blue tooth?

Austin, Texas – Another day, another cell phone in the rectum on death row story.

Prison officials conducting a routine shakedown of death row inmates, made a disturbing and disgusting discovery; a cell phone hidden inside the rectum of convicted murderer Henry Skinner.

Here is how it went down; During the shakedown two SIM ards were discovered in Skinner’s bible. SIM cards but no cell phone, naturally raised a red flag. Because Skinner had previously shown a propensity to …..Ahh…. be creative while hiding contraband, officials took him to the infirmary to run an X-ray.

There was no indication of how the cell phone was retrieved or who had to go and get it. Hopefully someone with very small hands?

Notice anything wrong?

Jackson, Mississippi – Meet Mario Andreas Gonzales Martinez. He’s just your typical 9 – 5 hard working guy who decided he needed to supplement his income to make ends meet. So, showing his entrepreneurial spirit, he came up with a great ID theft money making plan.

The Plan

Step 1 – Steal someone’s identity, get an ID made and open a bank account using said ID.
Step 2 – Steal someone’s checkbook, write check to stolen identity, deposit funds and withdraw the cash.

Sounds great on paper but this genius never made it past step one. He had a fake ID made, that actually looked genuine except for one little flaw; the photo. A driver’s license photo generally only has a photo of the person listed on the license! Mario used a photo of himself posing with his girlfriend. You gotta give credit to poor Mario for creativity but never underestimate a man’s stupidity!

87-year-old woman foils attempted robbery in NC

Glock 17 9mm – The weapon of choice for Grandmas everywhere

Hendersonville, North Carolina — Notice to burglars, be careful who you mess with when you break into a home. An 87-year-old woman packing heat is not someone to be taken lightly. Henderson County Sheriff Charles McDonald said that two men were arrested and now face first-degree burglary charges for breaking into a home while the resident was there.

They came in through a window, looking for goodies and instead woke the 87 year-old woman and got a close up view of her 9mm Glock. She never even had a chance to fire a shot, the two cowards promptly soiled themselves and scattered like roaches.

The men are also suspected in several other break-ins in the area. According to the Sheriff, both men were armed at the time of the attempted robbery. Just another example of a citizen using a self defense weapon to fight off a bad guy. The cops do a great job, but they can’t be everywhere, so we shouldn’t count on them for personal protection . Individuals should take responsibility for their own safety.

Stupid Criminals & Celebrity Mug Shot Look Alikes

If your school fight song is”Dueling Banjos”, you might be a redneck.

Joe-Bob MaGee

Siloam Springs Arkansas – Meet Joe-Bob MaGee from Arkansas. Joe-Bob has the unique honor of reaching two milestones; He has been married three times but still has the same in-laws and he happens to be a dead ringer for the banjo playing boy from Deliverance. Remember Deliverance? It was the movie about the four men who travel into the mountains and…ah…become acquainted with some good ole’ boys?

Deliverance Kid

Joe was arrested for residential burglary. He allegedly broke into a mobile home in the trailer park where he lives! Some of the items taken? A set of six Hank Williams 8-tracks, a stuffed squirrel, a siphon hose, and three packages of beef jerky.

Police were able to track him by following a set of shoe prints to his trailer. There was a heavy rainstorm the night before and the ground was still pretty muddy, thus preserving the tracks. I guess everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

KISS your freedom good-bye!

Eddie Deluccio

Los Angeles California – This is Eddie Deluccio, who just happens to look a lot like Gene Simmons from the rock band KISS. Eddie isn’t the smartest criminal around.

Eddie stole about fifty thousand dollars worth of gold coins from the trunk of a car. The coins belonged to a local coin dealer who was in route to a coin show and left them in his vehicle. Eddie appeared to have gotten away with it as the police had no leads and no finger prints.

Gene Simmons

Then Eddie went and did something stupid, he got arrested for a drunken bar fight. After he was arrested, he feared police might suspect him in the coin robbery. In a panic, he used the pay phone in the jail cell to call his accomplice and ordered him to “…get rid of the rest of the coins…now!”

Unfortunately for poor Eddie, he didn’t realize that jail cells are under constant surveillance and jail house phone calls are monitored and recorded. Well it didn’t take long for the police to put two and two together and realize which coins he was talking about. They traced the call, and located the accomplice and coins. Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

Lucius Alexander

Need A Post-It Note?

Newark, New Jersey – Meet Lucius Alexander, petty thief, alcoholic and a Carrot Top look-alike. Lucius was arrested for perhaps the stupidest theft of all time, stealing 20,000 Post-It Notes?!?!

Do you know anyone who needs 20,000 Post-It Notes?

Well, apparently Lucius believed he could make a killing selling them, so he broke into a warehouse where they were stored and make off with a boatload of them. Oh it seemed like the perfect crime…until it was time to sell them.

Carrot Top

Lucius fancied himself an entrepreneur, so he set up a booth at a local flea market and tried to unload his new found inventory. Lucius sure didn’t think things through because the flea market was just two blocks from the scene of the crime and the burglary made all the local papers and the evening newscast.

Police reported no fewer than 23 calls that day from flea market shoppers who had heard about the heist. Witnesses say that when Lucius was arrested he was crying like a baby, all while proclaiming his innocence. God must love stupid people. He made SO many of them!

Robberies Foiled With Beer, Golf Clubs & A Toy Gun

It’s Shame To See Good Beer Go To Waste

Kelvedon Hatch, England – A convenience store manager foiled an attempted robbery by throwing cans of beer at the attempted robber.

Aman Singh-Mann, 29, manager of the Nisa store in Kelvedon Hatch, England, said a knife-wielding masked man entered the store around 5:15 p.m. in the afternoon and demanded an employee open the cash register.

“It was a man shouting ‘open the till’. Straight away I knew I had to do something and I just acted on instinct. I went out and saw the man and he was waving the knife around. I grabbed the first thing I could and threw it at him.”

Singh-Mann said he continued to threw beer cans at the robber until he fled. Police are still trying to find the suspect. It’s a damn good thing Mr. Singh-Mann didn’t use pepper spray or a stun gun to fight off the robber or the bobbies would have arrested him for using a deadly weapon!
(UK man arrested for stun gun)
(UK man arrested for pepper spray)

Well, you gotta give him credit for thinking on his feet, after all a Beer bottle makes a great self defense weapon in a pinch. You know what makes a better one? A .500 Smith & Wesson!!!

Golf Clubs – Great For Driving, Putting And Kickin’ Ass!

Garden Grove, Ca – A jewelry store owner stopped an attempted robbery Wednesday by using an unlikely weapon…a nine iron!

Two Asian men entered Masterpiece Jewelry and indicated they had a question about repairing a piece of jewelry.

After the store owner buzzed them in, one of the suspects held a stun gun to the owner’s neck and demanded jewelry.

The owner broke free, ran to the back of the store and activated a silent alarm.
The attackers then shocked him repeatedly with the stun gun in an attempt to take him down. However, he was able to grab his golf club and tee-off on them so hard, they ran away, without any merchandise.

“We gotta be more careful,” said the owner, who was too afraid to reveal his name. “It’s the first time for me. What a shock.”

Officials plan to review security tapes hoping it will lead to the suspects.

Make My Day Punk.

Norwich, Ct – Norwich police arrested a pair of geniuses on Tuesday after a failed robbery attempt with a toy gun. Daron Henry and Jordan Nicholas, both 19 approached a couple on the street and demanded money. When the couple refused to had over the cash, Henry brandished the gun.

Now here is where it all falls apart, literally. When Henry tried to pistol whip the victim, the plastic gun broke into pieces. Out of fear or embarrassment, the two suspects then fled, but were caught a short time later.

Henry was charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, breach of peace and brandishing a facsimile firearm. Jordan, whose list of pending criminal cases that include drug sales and assault charges, faces similar charges.

Sikhs Consider Gun Ownership After Temple Massacre

Sikh Temple Of Wisconsin

Oak Creek, Wisconsin – Immediately following the Wisconsin Sikh temple massacre, there was the usual outcry for tougher gun control, but some members of the Sikh community are giving serious thought to arming themselves for personal protection in light of the tragedy.

The local Sikh community is still rattled after the Aug. 5 shooting in which Wade Michael Page opened fire at the Temple before a police officer gunned him down. His motive is still unknown, however he is a known white supremacist.

Many Sikhs now believe arming themselves may be the best form of self defense against hate crimes that have been perpetrated by attackers who mistake them for Muslims.

“I think that being able to legally obtain and carry a gun is the best thing any Sikh can do, especially after 9/11 where there have been over 800 documented cases of harassment and violence against us,” said Sim J. Singh, a practicing Sikh.

“The way the world is changing, I think I need to think about carrying a gun now,” Rajwinder Singh, the President of a Sikh Temple in Las Vegas, told FoxNews.com.

There is already precedent for carrying a self defense weapon in the Sikh religion. Sikhs are required by their religion to carry a dagger, called a “Kirpan”, for self defense, at all times.

“Our prophet said we should protect ourselves, and protect those who cannot defend themselves. He made sure that every [Sikh man] should carry a weapon,” Rajwinder Singh said.

“And now I know why my prophet says that I should carry a Kirpan. He saw that people should have some kind of protection.”

The president of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin unfortunately only had a butter knife in his possession to fight the gunman. He was gunned down but he undoubtedly slowed the attacker down. If he had a firearm he may have been able to stop the attack and save lives.

The response time for most Police departments is probably between two and four minutes. However, a lot can happen in that four minutes and if a private citizen is packing, lives can be saved. The cops can’t be everywhere and people shouldn’t rely on them arriving soon enough. Stronger gun control laws only punish law abiding citizens.

Atlanta P.D. Orders 400 Tasers For Officers

Police Officers Train With Tasers

The Atlanta Police Department is buying 400 Tasers so more officers can be armed with a non-lethal weapon, one most law enforcement agencies already use.

Tasers and other electronic stun devices can incapacitate criminals either by touching them directly with the device or shooting probes from a distance of 20 feet or more. Until recently in Atlanta, only SWAT officers have been issued Tasers.

The price tag of the 400 Tasers is estimated to be about $800,000. Although there won’t be enough Tasers to outfit each of the 1,900 Atlanta Police Department officers, officers in the highest crime ridden areas will receive priority.

Taser X26 Law Enforcement Model

The Tasers are expected to arrive sometime this fall and each officer will receive training on use-of-force law, APD policies, as well as extensive training on the Tasers.

Tasers and stun guns
work by delivering a temporary, debilitating shock and a are an excellent non-lethal means of subduing armed criminals or suspects who are fighting, resist arrest, or are under the influence of drugs.

Studies have repeatedly shown that the use of Tasers has led to reduced injuries of officers and civilians.

Police spokesman, Carlos Campos said the department decided to use Tasers because they could be “safe and viable alternatives to deadly force … We believe this is a safe and effective alternative tool.”

India Allows Tasers To Control Wild Animals

Tasers Will Be Used Against Wild Animals That Attack Humans In India

Thiruvananthapuram, India – Although Tasers and Stun Guns are still illegal for the general public to possess, India will allow them for use by forest rangers for animal control. The Kerala Forest Department announced that they will use the Tasers as a means of controlling wild animal attacks along the Sahyādri mountain range in western India.

The Tasers will be used to fight off and subdue wild animals such as Tigers, who have a tendency to roam into villages and small towns near jungle areas.

Wild animal attacks occur in large numbers in local villages bordering the forest areas in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Tasers work by firing two metal probes attached to a wire that send an electrical shock that penetrates the skin or fur, leading to a loss of muscle control and disorientation. The electrical shock will then stop the animal in its tracks, affecting the nervous system and interrupting the neuro-impluse communication with the brain.

Kerala Forestry officials, have tried conventional methods such as, traps and tranquilizer guns, however they have been ineffective in controlling some of the more violent and large animals such as tigers and elephants, that often attack humans. As a result they sought out new, non-lethal methods of controlling the animals without putting forest rangers in harm’s way.

“We have lost many lives because we could neither shoot down the animal nor save the victim. The stun guns will be used in life-and-death situations where there is hardly any time for response,” a senior forest official said. He said this device could even be used for overpowering elephants that go on the rampage under ‘musth’. “Usually, it takes hours to calm down such elephants. But one shot from this gun can bring an elephant to its knees, and then mahouts can take over.”

Paramjit Singh, head of Taser International (India), said that 10,000 Taser guns are being used in the USA both by Marshal Services and wildlife officials monitoring safari parks.

It’s interesting that India has seen the benefit of non-lethal methods of animal control. However, they should also realize that these same non-lethal methods can also provide a benefit to the citizens of their country against the criminals who prey on the innocent. A Taser would be the perfect option for the people of India who crave an inexpensive and effective way to provide for their own defense.

Tasers Are Now Legal In Michigan

Taser C2

Bay City, Michigan – Residents of Michigan now have a less-lethal force they can use to stop an attack. A new law took effect two weeks ago, allowing Tasers for use by private citizens.

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law back in May making Michigan the 44th state to allow residents to carry Tasers. They still have to jump through hoops and meet certain criteria, but it’s a step in the right direction. If a person has a concealed pistol license and takes a Taser training class, they can possess the weapon.

“People have waited a long time thinking, it’s a Taser, a Taser’s designed to go and make it so you’re incapacitated, but it doesn’t go with the threat of causing a life,” explained Glenn Duncan, owner of Duncan’s Gun Shop. Duncan plans on carrying the Taser C2, the civilian version of the police model.

The Taser has two metal probes connected by wires that shoot into an attacker’s body. The ensuing electrical charge causes a loss of muscle control, disorientation and ends with the attacker collapsing to the ground.

Michigan is a little late to the party, but better late than never. Only one question remains; When are the remaining six states going to stop protecting the criminals and treat private citizens like adults?

How To Properly Shoot Pepper Spray

Pepper Spray

OK, so yesterday we discussed the different types of pepper spray and how to choose the right one for you. However, once you’ve made a decision on which type of spray to choose, your work is not done. It’s just as important to put some thought into how you’ll carry it and how to use it.

Using your new pepper spray is not as simple as pointing and shooting. There’s a certain technique to using it that will increase your odds of success. Timing, shooting accurately, when and how to retreat and practice drills are all important things to factor in, when learning how to use pepper spray.

How To Carry Pepper Spray

There are three basic ways to carry a defensive spray and which one is best for you will be determined by the type of spray, size and whether you are male or female.

1. Purse Carry – Many women prefer this method, especially if they carry a large canister like 4oz or larger. The downside is that most women tend to throw it into their purse and forget about it, making it difficult to find on a moments notice when they need it. If you choose this option, keep your spray canister in its own pouch in your purse where it’s quickly and easily accessible. Many canisters come with a clip so that it can be attached to an inside pocket or flap of the purse for easy access. It should be in a spot where you can reach in and grab it without looking.

Key-Chain Pepper Spray

2. Key-Chain Carry – This method is the most common and popular way to carry pepper spray. Most people already have their keys in their hand when approaching or leaving their vehicle, so it’s easily deployed at a moments notice. The downside is, at a ½ oz in size, most key-chain pepper sprays are smaller than the purse carry models. One way that women rectify this is to carry a key-chain spray for quick deployment and an additional 4oz or larger model in their purse in the event they empty the key-chain canister.

Pepper Spray Belt Clip

3. Belt Carry – Belt carry is how the police carry their department issue spray. It’s also the preferred carry method for security guards. Larger model sprays usually come with some type of leather belt strap. It’s within reach quickly and easily. Many people attach the belt clip so that it faces down toward the ground. You’ll find that it’s easier to draw the spray quickly this way, rather than having to draw upward, which is an un-natural motion. Also make sure to arrange it so that when it’s retrieved, the trigger is already in the proper position in your hand. This way you don’t have to waste valuable time rearranging it in your hand.

Don’t ever carry pepper spray in your pocket, you won’t be able to retrieve it quickly enough to deploy. Most assaults occur quickly and without warning, so a quick deployment is vital to achieve the desired result. Carrying pepper spray in your pocket is akin to giving an attacker a one or two second head start. Remember, for a defensive spray to be effective, it should be readily available.

When To Use Your Spray

Your timing, deciding exactly when to use your spray, is essential to effectively stop an attacker in his tracks. The objective is to surprise the attacker. Pull out your pepper spray only when you’re prepared to use it. Don’t show it and threaten him with it, hoping you can frighten him off.

Don’t give the attacker any time to think and react to it. This makes it more difficult to achieve a direct hit if he can duck or avoid the spray. Also, many attackers carry a weapon but don’t often show it. They often feel they can overpower someone without a weapon but carry one just in case they need it. Raising your pepper spray prematurely without shooting it just gives him time to retrieve his weapon and use it against you.

Shooting The Pepper Spray

Aim, Shoot and Readjust Your Aim If Necessary

Most women who carry pepper spray are completely unprepared to use it because they have never been trained. They mistakenly believe that all they have to do is point and shoot. They underestimate how quickly things happen and don’t realize how difficult it can be to shoot and aim accurately under stressful conditions.

Once you’ve pulled out your spray and are ready to shoot, it’s important to get into a good athletic position in preparation to shoot. Go into a slight crouch with your feet about shoulder width apart, evenly balanced, shoulders squared and facing directly toward the assailant.

Hold your non-shooting hand out and yell “stop”, as you shoot. This will focus your energy on the task at hand and draw the attacker’s attention toward your hand and away from the pepper spray. It also gives you time to raise and aim the spray before you shoot. However, be aware that many people under the stress of the situation, may not be able to keep their shooting hand steady enough to achieve accurate aim.
If you feel this might be the case with you, then use your non-shooting hand to steady the shooting hand.

As you shoot, never thrust your hand forward as it will affect your aim. Instead, raise your arm gently but in a quick and smooth motion. Don’t turn your back on the attacker! As you fire, step backward slightly in a slow, steady and deliberate manner. Try to limit upper body movement as much as possible. Limiting upper body, and hip movement, will keep your aim steady and prevent you from having to constantly readjust your aim.

Stepping back will give you more time, create more distance between you and the attacker and draw the attacker into the spray. Don’t shut your eyes while spraying and don’t wave the spray like a fire hose, this does nothing but waste the spray. Remember to aim, shoot and look where you are hitting and correct if necessary.
Aim for the head and shoulders. Shooting for about 1 – 2 seconds is usually adequate. At this point, an attacker will normally pause for a moment while he tries to gather himself as the pain and uncontrollable coughing spasms set in. Once he’s disabled, stop spraying, and escape.

Retreat

The whole point of having pepper spray is to use it to escape! So once, he’s been neutralized, get out of there. Don’t wait around for police or try to detain him for the cops. Don’t move toward the attacker or you may be affected by the spray. While making your escape, back away but don’t turn your back on him! Obviously, you need to see were you’re going but don’t turn your back on him until you are a good distance away. He may get up and attempt to follow you, so you may need to spray him again. Once you are a safe distance away (about 100 feet or so), and you see that he isn’t getting up, turn around, run and and make your escape as quickly as possible.

So, remember to stay calm, aim, spray, adjust and continue spraying, while backing up. Also if you want to be able to use the spray effectively it’s important to practice all the steps. If you don’t practice, when you find yourself in a threatening situation, you’ll probably panic and freeze up. Practice until you feel confidant and then when something happens, you won’t panic because you’ll be prepared. If you don’t want to practice with real pepper spray, you can purchase an water-based inert spray.

Be prepared, stay alert, and practice. Good luck!

Pepper Spray – How To Choose The Right One

Habanero Peppers

We’ve blogged about how pepper spray and other self defense weapons have been used against an attacker and how effective it can be as self defense tool. However one of the things that we haven’t mentioned, but just as important, is how to choose the right one.

Pepper Spray comes in many different sizes, shapes, strengths and dispersal patterns so, picking one can be a bit confusing. So, lets break down the various types of defensive sprays based on three characteristics;

  1. Chemical Composition
  2. Formulation
  3. Delivery Method

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

There are three types of defensive sprays on the market today. OC is the only one refered to as “Pepper Spray” because it’s actually made from hot chile peppers. CS and CN are considered “Tear Gas” and are made from chemicals.

  1. CS (Orthochlorobenzalmalonitrile)
  2. CN (alphachloroacetaphenone)
  3. OC (Oleoresin Capsicum)

Police use Tear Gas for riot control, but it’s also available for civilian use

CS and CN (commonly called tear gas) are chemical irritants that affect the membrane tissues. Tear gas works by irritating mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, mouth and lungs, and causes crying, sneezing, coughing, difficulty breathing, pain in the eyes, temporary blindness.

It will also burn the skin where sweaty and or sunburned. In highly concentrated doses it can also induce severe coughing and vomiting. Almost all of the immediate effects wear off within an hour, although the feeling of burning and highly irritated skin may persist for hours.

Also, both CS and CN are man-made chemicals that are carcinogens and may lead to long-term health problems.

OC Pepper Spray

OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) generally referred to as Pepper Spray, is the most common and effective defensive spray. OC is an inflammatory agent, unlike CS and CN which are irritants. OC is not a man-made chemical, it is created from a variety of hot pepper plants and as a result, is natural, non-toxic and causes no permanent damage. OC begins working immediately, and typically takes about thirty to forty minutes for its effects to subside.

OC dilates the eye capillaries, which causes temporary blindness. Next, it enters the throat and inflames breathing tissue, resulting in severe coughing. Therefore, its effective on people under the influence of drugs who might not feel pain. The attacker is still able to breathe, so OC isn’t life threatening, but is extremely debilitating and uncomfortable.

Scoville Heat Chart

FORMULATION – SHU’S

Pepper Sprays come in a range of concentrations from 1% to 18%. Most people believe that 18% is the best because it’s made up of the highest concentration of OC. However, the best method to determine a pepper spray’s effectiveness is to find out the heat rating. The heat rating of OC pepper spray is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU’s). The SHU for a standard bell pepper is 0, while Habanero peppers are approximately 200,000 to 300,000. Many OC Pepper Sprays have an SHU of between 1,000,00 to 3,000,000. So, purchasing OC pepper spray with a concentration of 18% is fine, but the most important thing to consider is the heat rating. Pepper Spray with a higher heat rating will incapacitate an attacker and make him more uncomfortable than a pepper spray with a lower heat rating.

DELIVERY METHOD

The next thing to consider is the delivery method. This is just as significant as the formulation in determining which Pepper Spray is right for you. Each delivery method has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. The delivery methods are; the stream, fogger, foam, gel and combination.

Stream

Stream

The stream works in a way similar to a high pressure garden hose nozzle. A large amount of spray being forced through a small opening in a short amount of time.

Advantages
The stream has the largest range, up to 20 feet, so you will be able to keep a safe distance between you and the attacker. It’s made up of heavy droplets so it’s not likely to be affected by strong winds and won’t blow back into your direction. The stream can be shot directly into an attackers face, making it particularly effective. The stream is the only model available in the popular key-chain version that many women like.

Disadvantages
Although the stream has the best range, the user must be precise in their aim, which could prove to be difficult under the stress of the circumstances. If an attacker is within close range, it may be tough to get an accurate shot to the face. The stream doesn’t last as long as some of the other models. Shooting a large amount of spray means you will empty your canister quickly. The stream doesn’t create a mist-like barrier so a direct hit to the face is required for it to be effective.

Fogger

Fogger

The fogger, as its name implies, creates a fog-like spray pattern. It is made up of much finer droplets than the stream, so it lingers in the air much longer.

Advantages
Foggers are under high pressure, so the range is nearly equivalent to the stream, about 15 feet. The fogger also creates a mist-like barrier, that hovers in the air for several minutes, which makes it effective against multiple assailants. The fogger is especially effective indoors. Spraying the fogger in a doorway or hallway will make it nearly impenetrable. This is ideal if you need to hold an off attacker for a few minutes to give yourself time to escape through a window or another door.

Disadvantages
Because Foggers are under high pressure and they discharge a large amount of spray, you’ll empty your canister pretty quickly. Foggers could be affected by heavy winds and blow back in the users direction. Not available in the key-chain model.

Foam

Pepper Foam

The pepper foam looks like a foam-type shaving cream and can cover an attacker’s entire face, making it difficult to see.

Advantages
The pepper foam sticks to the face and any attempt to wipe it off will cause deeper penetration into the skin. It includes a UV dye that marks the attacker for law enforcement to identify him. The range is good at 8 to 10 feet.

Disadvantages
It doesn’t create a barrier like the cone mist or the fogger. The user must aim accurately to achieve a direct hit to the face. Not available in the key-chain model.

Pepper Gel

Pepper Gel

The pepper gel is a glue-like substance that reacts similar to the pepper foam and sticks to an attacker’s skin.

Advantages
The pepper gel sticks to the face like glue. Like the Pepper Foam it marks the attacker’s face for law enforcement to identity easily. The pepper gel has an excellent 18 foot range. Any attempt to wipe it off, causes further penetration into the skin.

Disadvantages
It doesn’t create a barrier like the cone mist or fogger. The user must aim accurately to achieve a direct hit to the face. Not available in the key-chain model.

Combination Spray

Mace Combo Spray

A combo spray combines the the effects of OC Pepper Spray, CN Tear Gas, and UV dye to create a triple threat to an attacker.

Advantages
The OC causes the eyes to burn and induces an uncontrollable coughing attack. The CN causes intense burning and disorientation. The UV dye marks the attackers face for law enforcement. The combo comes in a stream and fogger model.

Disadvantages
Because it contains CN gas, it does have chemicals in it that can cause long term health risks. Not a big problem for you, just your attacker, unless you accidentally spray it on yourself or the wind blows it back in your face. Also, it’s not available in the smaller key-chain model that many women prefer.

There really is no right or wrong defensive spray, it’s really just a matter of preference. Do you want something with a longer range, or would you rather have a spray that doesn’t require perfect aim? Do you want a smaller key-chain model or a larger one to keep in your purse? These are questions that only you can answer, but hopefully you now know enough about the various options that your decision will be eaiser.

So now that you have a better idea of what type of defensive spray to buy, it’s also important to learn how to use it. It’s not as simple as point and shoot. Many women purchase pepper spray without being properly trained on how to use it.

So next time we’ll discuss techniques on how to shoot your pepper spray to maximize your chances off success.
