The Runt Rechargeable Stun Gun

A stun gun is a self defense device that discharges electricity, disrupting the human body’s natural electrical signals. Most stun guns have between two to four metal contacts that, when touched against someone, will immediately send an electrical charge into the body. The ensuing electrical charge affects the central nervous system and will incapacitate even the largest of men. But how does it work and how much damage can it cause? To answer those questions it’s important to review basic concept of electricity and how it affects the human body.

ELECTRICITY BASICS

A common misconception among many people is that the shock from a stun gun can cause serious injury or death. While it’s true that exposure to electricity can lead to serious organ damage and death, this is not true of stun guns. If an electrical charge is high in amps it can lead to death, but high voltage will do nothing more than cause pain. Think of voltage as pressure or intensity and amperage as speed. The human body can take a lot of electrical “pressure” (voltage) at a low current or “speed” (amperage). The higher the speed, the more likely that severe damage will occur. Most stun guns can emit a charge of up to several million volts, but less than 10 milliamps. So a stun gun sends an electrical charge at a great intensity into the human body but does so at a very low rate of speed.

The following table gives examples of amperage and the effect on the human body;

• 1 milliamp – Tingling Sensation in the muscles.
• 3 – 5 milliamps – Muscle contractions, moderate pain, loss of balance and disorientation, some voluntary muscle control is still maintained.
• 6 – 15 milliamps – Painful, complete loss of muscle control.
• 100 – 200 milliamps – Extreme pain, Ventricular fibrillation (uneven, uncoordinated pumping of the heart.) Muscular contraction and nerve damage begins to occur. Death is likely.

THE MYTH OF STUN GUN DEATHS

Tasers (a brand of stun gun) used by police have been wrongly blamed for some high profile deaths in recent years. However, subsequent investigations have shown that the deaths were mainly caused by outside influences and not the stun gun itself. Most of the individuals who died after contact with a stun gun were under the influence of mind-altering drugs like cocaine. According to research, the presence of cocaine in the bloodstream increases the “shock” from a stun gun by 50 to 100 percent.

So, it isn’t actually the stun gun, but the presence of “illegal” drugs that was the catalyst. Without the presence of drugs in their system, they would have experienced a mild shock. The charge generated from a stun gun alone cannot cause death. Two to five milliamps simply isn’t enough amperage to cause death to a human being. However, when that amperage is increased by outside influences, the stun gun, or the user can’t be blamed.

HOW A STUN GUN DISRUPTS ELECTRICAL SIGNALS IN THE BODY

Electricity is present in the human body, without it we wouldn’t be able to perform simple tasks. The brain sends an electrical signal to nerve cells which then sends it to muscles telling them to expand or contract, to perform a particular function like walking or picking up an object. The muscle then sends a message back to the brain telling it what an object feels or tastes like. All of these messages travel through the central nervous system.

A stun gun works by disrupting this communication between the brain and nerve cells. The muscles are confused by this disruption and the ensuing electrical shock tells them to contract and expand rapidly. This rapid movement and resulting stress on the muscles depletes the blood sugar and converts it to lactic acid. In layman’s terms, the muscles are forced to do a massive amount of work in a short time and are too exhausted to perform even the most basic functions, like standing up. This leads to a loss of balance and disorientation which will typically last thirty to forty minutes, and there is no permanent effect on the human body.

The effects of a stun gun will vary based on many factors; the type or model, how many seconds it touches an attacker, the size and weight of the attacker, and the physiological makeup of the individual. However, as a general guideline the following is usually true;

• One second of contact will exact some pain and cause muscles to contract.
• Two seconds of contact will lead to moderate pain, muscle spasms and some loss of balance.
• Three seconds of contact will cause intense pain, confusion, disorientation and lead to a complete loss of balance.

Stun guns are a great self defense option, especially for women. They disrupt the natural electrical signals traveling through the central nervous system causing disorientation and a lack of balance. They pack a powerful punch but leave no lasting damage. For people who are uncomfortable carrying a lethal weapon like a fire arm, a great non-lethal solution is a stun gun.

Atlanta P.D. Orders 400 Tasers For Officers

The Atlanta Police Department is buying 400 Tasers so more officers can be armed with a non-lethal weapon, one most law enforcement agencies already use.

Tasers and other electronic stun devices can incapacitate criminals either by touching them directly with the device or shooting probes from a distance of 20 feet or more. Until recently in Atlanta, only SWAT officers have been issued Tasers.

The price tag of the 400 Tasers is estimated to be about $800,000. Although there won’t be enough Tasers to outfit each of the 1,900 Atlanta Police Department officers, officers in the highest crime ridden areas will receive priority.

The Tasers are expected to arrive sometime this fall and each officer will receive training on use-of-force law, APD policies, as well as extensive training on the Tasers.

Police spokesman, Carlos Campos said the department decided to use Tasers because they could be “safe and viable alternatives to deadly force … We believe this is a safe and effective alternative tool.”

India Allows Tasers To Control Wild Animals

Thiruvananthapuram, India – Although Tasers and Stun Guns are still illegal for the general public to possess, India will allow them for use by forest rangers for animal control. The Kerala Forest Department announced that they will use the Tasers as a means of controlling wild animal attacks along the Sahyādri mountain range in western India.

The Tasers will be used to fight off and subdue wild animals such as Tigers, who have a tendency to roam into villages and small towns near jungle areas.

Wild animal attacks occur in large numbers in local villages bordering the forest areas in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Tasers work by firing two metal probes attached to a wire that send an electrical shock that penetrates the skin or fur, leading to a loss of muscle control and disorientation. The electrical shock will then stop the animal in its tracks, affecting the nervous system and interrupting the neuro-impluse communication with the brain.

Kerala Forestry officials, have tried conventional methods such as, traps and tranquilizer guns, however they have been ineffective in controlling some of the more violent and large animals such as tigers and elephants, that often attack humans. As a result they sought out new, non-lethal methods of controlling the animals without putting forest rangers in harm’s way.

“We have lost many lives because we could neither shoot down the animal nor save the victim. The stun guns will be used in life-and-death situations where there is hardly any time for response,” a senior forest official said. He said this device could even be used for overpowering elephants that go on the rampage under ‘musth’. “Usually, it takes hours to calm down such elephants. But one shot from this gun can bring an elephant to its knees, and then mahouts can take over.”

Paramjit Singh, head of Taser International (India), said that 10,000 Taser guns are being used in the USA both by Marshal Services and wildlife officials monitoring safari parks.

It’s interesting that India has seen the benefit of non-lethal methods of animal control. However, they should also realize that these same non-lethal methods can also provide a benefit to the citizens of their country against the criminals who prey on the innocent. A Taser would be the perfect option for the people of India who crave an inexpensive and effective way to provide for their own defense.

Tasers Are Now Legal In Michigan

Bay City, Michigan – Residents of Michigan now have a less-lethal force they can use to stop an attack. A new law took effect two weeks ago, allowing Tasers for use by private citizens.

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law back in May making Michigan the 44th state to allow residents to carry Tasers. They still have to jump through hoops and meet certain criteria, but it’s a step in the right direction. If a person has a concealed pistol license and takes a Taser training class, they can possess the weapon.

“People have waited a long time thinking, it’s a Taser, a Taser’s designed to go and make it so you’re incapacitated, but it doesn’t go with the threat of causing a life,” explained Glenn Duncan, owner of Duncan’s Gun Shop. Duncan plans on carrying the Taser C2, the civilian version of the police model.

The Taser has two metal probes connected by wires that shoot into an attacker’s body. The ensuing electrical charge causes a loss of muscle control, disorientation and ends with the attacker collapsing to the ground.

Michigan is a little late to the party, but better late than never. Only one question remains; When are the remaining six states going to stop protecting the criminals and treat private citizens like adults?

Citizens of Guwahati, India arm themselves after a violent attack rocks the country

A violent sexual assault has put India’s citizens on edge

Guwahati, India – After a recent molestation made world-wide headlines, locals have begun stocking up on self defense supplies. Pepper sprays, stun guns, telescopic batons and knives are a few things that natives of this Indian city have been purchasing en masse in recent weeks.

The early July Guwahati molestation incident seems to have spurred the trend, and has rocked the entire country due to circumstances of the event. On or about July 9th approximately 17 men were involved in the sexual assault of a female outside a pub. It gets worse, the incident was apparently filmed by a reporter, who never thought to try to prevent it or even call police. As of this writing, 15 suspects have been arrested.

The Guwahati incident has instilled fear in single working women, and parents worried about their children’s safety. Now, many locals are buying self defense products or enrolling in self defense classes.

Officials have urged women employees working night shifts to equip themselves with self-defense tools and get some simple training to escape danger.

Experts suggest that in addition to pepper spray, consistent awareness is also a good idea.“Pepper spray can be a handy tool, but being aware of your surroundings is also important. In the last one week, we’ve had a large number of single working women and worried parents enrolling their teenage daughters in our Krav Maga self-defense classes,” says Franklin Joseph, self-defense instructor, Bad-ass Combat Academy.

Further, many are buying telescopic batons and stun guns — though they cost a little more than pepper sprays — which are handy, he added.

Sonia Narang, a local official, said “People are becoming more proactive and taking precautions now. We have issued pamphlets with simple tips to create awareness. While Bangalore is quite safe for women, the first step is to become more alert. Women need to arm themselves.”

It doesn’t matter what part of the world you live in, the danger of becoming a victim of street crime knows no borders. Pepper spray is one of the easiest, and least expensive tools you have at your disposal. Other options include stun guns and Tasers.

The police can’t be everywhere, and they likely won’t be nearby when you need help. Individuals must take responsibility for their own self defense. An obese woman steals bacon and cheese from a Piggly Wiggly. Sometimes reality is funnier than reality TV.

Georgia – Back in May, An obese woman, Lonneshia Shafaye Appling, 26, apparently stole some bacon and cheese for her Atkins diet, from a Clarke County Piggly Wiggly and then used pepper spray to assault employees who chased her.

A customer noticed Appling hide some items in a canvas bag in her shopping cart, then pay for just one item at the checkout counter. When employees tried to stop her at the exit, she discharged her pepper spray into one of the employees’ face.

It gets better.

As she fled the store on foot, employees engaged in a slow speed pursuit (She is 340 pounds). Running at a full sprint, she realized the employees were gaining ground on her, despite the fact that they were walking at a causal pace. Hoping to lighten her load and gain some speed, she dropped a few stolen beer cans from her purse. When they caught up with Appling and spoke with her in an attempt to detain her for police, she punched one of the workers, then spit in his face. Hopefully this was before she consumed the bacon and cheese. She even offered them cash if they would let her go.

This wasn’t her first brush with the law, she was arrested in January for shoplifting at an store in Madison County. When the officer tried to take Appling into custody, she started taking her clothes off and told the officer she had AIDS.

As the officer struggled to cuff the…ah…..large woman, Appling continued her striptease until she was completely naked. She broke free from the officer, who eventually subdued her with a taser.

Appling is a sad example of what is becoming of our once proud nation; selfish, lazy, fat, apathetic, and a sense of entitlement.

Tennessee – We’re not exactly sure what happened, or even if the event in question occurred at a trailer park. But the police report indicated a domestic dispute between James Earl Taylor, 40, and Mary Childers, after an argument over the reality show “Redneck island” evolved into a physical assault.
The physical altercation apparently involved Orange Cheese Puffs, that fact is not in dispute. However, it’s unclear whether the improvised weapon in question was Crunchy Cheetos, Cheetos Puffs or the Flamin’ Hot Variety.

Oklahoma – Lahoma Sue Smith of Oklahoma pleaded guilty to a prostitution charge for accepting a box of Frito-Lay chips in exchange for oral sex. According to an Oklahoma City Police Department report, Faron Ray Johnson told cops that he informed Smith that he did not have any money, but that she ‘agreed to give him sex for a box of chips.’ Johnson, a Frito-Lay employee, provided Smith with a case of chips he valued at $30.

I’d do just about anything for a bag of Sweet Maui Onion, but this is ridiculous.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Police followed a trail of potato chips to catch a Pennsylvania burglary suspect.

Nobody can steal just one!

Washington police say 21-year-old Benjamin Sickles was arrested after he broke into a Subway restaurant and stole several bags of snacks. Not simply content to take his new found booty home to snack on later, he ate while he walked, leaving a trail of chips as he went.

Cops say the mental giant broke a glass door before trying to unsuccessfully open the cash register. He then made off with nine bags of chips after he couldn’t get to the cash.

Officers followed a trail of chip bags to Sickles residence. He was hold up in the house, so cops lured him out with sour cream and onion dip. He had a bloody hand and foot when he was taken into custody after police drew their Tasers.

Saanich, B.C. – A couple of drunk university students stole Zellers brand BBQ – flavored chips out of a woman’s garage in Saanich, B.C.

We Always Get Our Chip Thief

The female students were drinking and heading to the University of Victoria when they passed an open garage and noticed the chips inside. The owner, who was alerted to their presence by her barking Chihuahua, heard the chip bandits and called the police.

According to police, the chip thieves motivation was the fact that Zellers is closing it’s doors for good in October and these chips are particularly good.

“I haven’t tried these for myself, but my understanding is that particular brand of barbeque is quite tasty,” said Sgt. Dean Jantzen of the Saanich Police as he tried to keep a straight face. “Apparently there had been some elicit chip tasting.”

Jantzen couldn’t keep his laughter suppressed any longer and after one question laughed saying, “These are first time chip offenders.”

But when a real dude, who just happens to be a dead ringer for Chris, gets arrested for some Walkenesque creepy behavior, it makes one wonder; Is this art imitating life or life imitating art?

In April of 2011, New Jersey resident, Tony Kadyhrob was arrested and banned from several local universities for stalking college women. That is, until one of them showed of her self defense skills and took him down.

Tony fancies himself a ladies man and apparently believes that a middle age man with a bad mustache can be a babe magnet. Funny, that sounds a lot like the reoccurring character that Walken played on the “Saturday Night Live” skit called “The Continental”.

Meet the new Walmart Greeter! An obese southeastern Pennsylvania man was arrested after cops say he walked, bare-naked into a Walmart and stole a pair of socks. And what naked man wants to walk around bare foot? After all, Walmart has a policy against bare feet in it’s stores!

Thirty-two-year-old Verdon Lamont Taylor was arrested after police say he stripped off his clothes in the parking lot and went inside.

Surveillance footage shows the 6-foot-4, 300-pound man strolling around the store. Authorities were forced to use a stun gun to subdue him after he refused to comply with officers’ orders. No word yet on where the stun gun was used on the suspect, but we can only hope it was someplace…….well, other than down there! Ouch! Hurts just thinking about it!

This next guy makes naked/sock guy seem like a rocket scientist. A 19-year-old male broke into a home in West Virginia. While rummaging through the house looking for goodies, he realized he hadn’t updated his Facebook status recently, so……drum roll please, he figured, no better time than the present! It doesn’t take a genius to see where this is going.

When the homeowners arrived home, later that evening they discovered some valuables missing. They called 911, and while waiting for the police to arrive, went to their computer to let friends on Facebook know what happened. Well, the genius robber never logged out of his account! There was his personal info for everyone to see, including cops! The man was arrested, convicted of grand theft and is now spending time in prison getting poked, by his new friends.

Daniel Wood, started the night like any other Tuesday; inhaling some aerosol cans, huffing some gas fumes and running around in traffic. But this wasn’t just your run-of-the-mill artificially induced high, fire breathing, dodging Honda’s and Chevy’s type of night!

After eluding cops and on-coming traffic, the police decided to put an end to his shenanigans by using their taser to subdue him. Unfortunately for Daniel, the electrical charge from a taser and the fumes from the gas he inhaled mixed like oil and water, or more accurately like gas and electricity!

Predictably, Daniel caught on fire and the cops had to put him out and take him to the hospital for burns. A hospital spokesman stated that the burns were only superficial and Daniel would back to normal in no time. We would like to remind you that “normal” is a highly subjective term!
